Data Engineer

Job Objectives

The Data Engineer will be a hands-on contributor to the firm’s data analytics team. He or she will manage the data architecture and be responsible for ongoing development in a SQL Server environment. The Data Engineer will collaborate with actuaries and data scientists to continually improve and upgrade tools, data sources, and data quality for use in actuarial data analysis and predictive modeling.

The Data Engineer will also manage ETL processes and will work with external clients as necessary to ensure the integrity of external data sources; and assist in development of data-driven client reporting tools.

Particulars

Hours: Full-time salaried position.

Compensation & benefits: Competitive salary based on skills and experience, plus bonus. Benefits include health, dental, and retirement.

Reporting relationships: The Data Engineer will report to the Chief Operating Officer as part of a cross-functional team including actuaries and data scientists. The Data Engineer will not manage any staff at the present time.

Location: Simsbury, CT. Small office environment. Opportunities for working remotely part of the time as mutually agreed.

Required qualifications & skills

• 5-7 years’ experience in data management
• 3 years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including SSIS and SSRS
• Extensive coding experience in SQL. Experience in R desired
• Creative problem-solver. Able to identify important problems and opportunities and address them proactively.
• Ability to operate autonomously, set priorities, and plan effectively
• Effective in both spoken and written communication
• Works collaboratively in a team setting
• Experience in finance, life insurance, and/or annuities desired
